Goldson Spine

Twenty years ago, a small loan was given to a young man by his father Randolph Goldson.Mr. Goldson, who instilled a solid work ethic and unwavering determination in his son, had both the faith and foresight to know that the young boy he had raised to be a man would go on to achieve great accomplishments, but more importantly that he would change lives in the process. With the loan in hand and vote of confidence from his father, Goldson Spine Rehabilitation Center, then Goldson Chiropractic opened the doors to its first practice in Plantation, Florida, with the late Dr. Fidel S. Goldson Sr., excitedly at the helm.

As a native of Jamaica, Dr. Goldson Sr. had a very clear yet simple vision and dream for his practice: to become a quality health care facility within the Caribbean community that would not only be a place where people knew they would receive top notch chiropractic care, but a place where every person who stepped into the practice felt like he or she was family. And he did just that.

Grace Foods

GraceKennedy Limited was founded on February 14, 1922 by Dr. John J. Grace and Mr. Fred William Kennedy. Prior to the founding of GraceKennedy these two gentlemen worked for Grace Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of W.R. Grace & Company of New York City, New York.

In the United States a brief post-war economic boom which lasted from 1918 until the summer of 1921 was followed by an equally brief but sharp recession. Insolvencies tripled between 1919 and 1921. W.R. Grace and Co. of New York felt the pressure and decided to divest its Jamaican branch. Dr. John Grace realized that Grace Limited in Jamaica was not itself a failing concern but that it was being divested in order to relieve the pressure from the parent company in New York. He decided to keep it. Fred W. Kennedy, who recommended that James Moss-Solomon, then with United Fruit Company, be invited to join the new firm as Accountant, backed his decision. Like Kennedy, Moss-Solomon was of Jamaican stock.

Thus on February 14, 1922, St. Valentine’s Day and Fred William Kennedy’s Mother’s Birthday, a new firm, Grace, Kennedy & Company Limited was launched on the successes of its predecessor. The Memorandum of Association gave the Company room to carry on a general mercantile and commercial business and any other business, manufacturing or otherwise, as its Directors deemed desirable ‘…. To enhance the value of or to render profitable any of the company’s property or rights’. It was a widely permissive document. Subject to alteration or addition as the Directors might deem expedient. The Capital of the Company was £25,000 divided into 250 shares of £100 each, with power from time to time to increase the capital.

The first Directors Meeting of GraceKennedy Limited was held on February 15, 1922, at the offices of Cargill, Cargill and Dunn, solicitors, 4 Duke Street, Kingston. Those present were Dr. John Grace, Governing Director; Fred William Kennedy, appointed a Director. The meeting appointed the Colonial Bank as the Company’s bankers; G.F. Wallace, secretary; James Moss- Solomon, accountant; and Cargill, Cargill and Dunn, solicitors, instructed to retain H. M. Radcliffe as counsel. The Company’s cheques were to be honored on the signature of the Governing Director alone, or together with that of Fred William Kennedy; and an agreement was to be concluded between the Company and Mr. Walter Fletcher for the management of the former Montego Bay branch of Grace, Limited, which had also been acquired by GraceKennedy Limited. The former Grace. Limited branch in St. Ann’s Bay had been closed and was not purchased byGraceKennedy Limited.

Bacardi – nurtured by seven generations of the Bacardi family – is a vibrant, family-owned spirits company, as well as the world’s largest privately held spirits company.

From our enviable portfolio of premium brands pre-eminently positioned in the spirits industry, to landmark structures that have won worldwide architectural acclaim, we have constructed our legacy on perseverance, quality, prestige, innovation and creativity.

Our exclusive emphasis on quality began in Santiago de Cuba where on February 4, 1862, Don Facundo Bacardí Massó purchased a small distillery and revolutionized rum making. After careful and systematic experimentation with a variety of ingredients, aging and blends, Don Facundo created a new, smooth, light-bodied spirit – BACARDÍ rum – what the world now knows as premium light rum.

These new BACARDÍ rum blends were a delight to the residents who were accustomed to the local “ron” that was crude and harsh. Cuba’s emerging middle class welcomed the taste of smooth, light-bodied, aged and mixable rums branded with an elegant, intriguing black bat on the label.

It was this creation by Bacardi that revolutionized the spirits world, enabling the creation of an entire cocktail category and culture that remains vibrant today with its legendary creation of the first mixable rum.

Red Bull

26 Years and Counting
Dive into some interesting information about the company and the journey Red Bull had throughout the last 26 years.
How it all began

Inspired by functional drinks from the Far East, Dietrich Mateschitz founded Red Bull in the mid 1980’s. He created the formula of Red Bull Energy Drink and developed the unique marketing concept of Red Bull. In 1987, on April 1, Red Bull Energy Drink was sold for the very first time in its home market Austria. This was not only the launch of a completely new product, in fact it was the birth of a totally new product category. Today Red Bull is available in more than 166 countries and around 40 billion cans of Red Bull have been consumed so far.
In 166Countries around the world

In terms of further expansion, Red Bull is targeting the core markets of Western Europe and the USA and growth markets in the Far East, while also focusing on the ongoing world-wide roll-out of the Red Bull Editions. In spite of the still uncertain financial and global economic climate, our plans for growth and investment in 2014 remain very ambitious, envisage a continued upward trend, and – as always at Red Bull – will be financed from the operative cash flow.

It all began over 40 years ago with reggae pioneers, Vincent Chin and his wife Patricia (their initials leading to the name “VP”), in their native Kingston, Jamaica. Mr. Chin received his first taste of the music business maintaining the jukeboxes at bars around the island. This led his creative and enterprising mind to recognize the opportunity to sell the old records that would otherwise be discarded for new ones. The entrepreneurial couple quickly learned hands-on the business of music merchandising.

In 1983, three young enterprising Guyanese – John La Rose, Terrence Pariaug and Glen Khan, saw a need to reconnect West Indians who were living overseas, with their families and friends in their respective homelands in the Caribbean and Guyana. The Caribbean communities in the United States of America, Canada and the UK needed a reliable channel to send supplies, gifts and various other items to their families ‘back home’. Thus was born LAPARKAN which is an acronym from the last names of the three entrepreneurs.

Laparkan opened its first office in Toronto, Canada in summer of 1983. The word quickly spread throughout the Caribbean Diaspora and soon there was a demand for offices in other locations. Through hard work and a focused approach, Laparkan quickly established offices in Guyana, New York, Miami and the United Kingdom. The response from the overseas communities was very positive and supportive and within six years, Laparkan had additional offices or agencies opened in Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and Barbados.

By the early 90’s Laparkan fortified and consolidated its markets and planned another push into other Caribbean territories such as Antigua, St. Lucia, Grenada, Surinam and St. Vincent to name a few. With continuous success and growth, Laparkan offered its uniquely Caribbean flavored business brand into the larger markets of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. As Laparkan developed its Caribbean presence, it simultaneously expanded its North America operations. Laparkan offices flourished within the communities that they served and became an integral part of their customer base. Today Laparkan can be found in the midst of the Caribbean communities across the USA and Canada.

With structured growth in place, Laparkan turned its interest to diversification and to the acquisition of major companies in Guyana. It now has ownership of the century old Fogarty’s Department Store and is the major shareholder in Guyana’s oldest and largest engineering company – the Guyana National Industrial Corporation. Laparkan’s diversification also includes the formation of Laparkan Financial Services, Travel and Office Equipment & Supplies Divisions.

Guinness is a popular Irish dry stout that originated in the brewery of Arthur Guinness (1725–1803) at St. James’s Gate, Dublin. Guinness is one of the most successful beer brands worldwide. It is brewed in almost 60 countries and is available in over 120.

Arthur Guinness started brewing ales from 1759 at the St. James’s Gate Brewery, Dublin. On 31 December 1759 he signed a 9,000 year lease at £45 per annum for the unused brewery.Ten years later, on 19 May 1769, Guinness first exported his ale: he shipped six-and-a-half barrels to Great Britain.

“Stout” originally referred to a beer’s strength, but eventually shifted meaning toward body and colour.

Arthur Guinness started selling the dark beer porter in 1778. The first Guinness beers to use the term were Single Stout and Double Stout in the 1840s. Throughout the bulk of its history, Guinness produced ‘only three variations of a single beer type: porter or single stout, double or extra and foreign stout for export’. Porter was also referred to as “plain”, as referenced in the famous refrain of Flann O’Brien’s poem “The Workman’s Friend”: “A pint of plain is your only man.
